Lardos
Lardos is a traditional Greek village where life centres around the main square, a wonderful place to sit and watch the world go by with a frappe, cold beer or an ice cream from the geletaria.
Lardos has a great selection of tavernas offering traditional Meze and international cuisine at affordable prices. You can always be sure of good service and a warm welcome and a chance to mix with the locals.
If you are staying in a villa, then dining al fresco at the villa is a must so do visit the local butcher for the best quality meat around and take advantage of the BBQ. Early mornings will see fresh fish being sold from the village square or visit the fishmongers (next to the butchers) if you miss the first catch of the day! Don't wish to cook fish yourself, then visit Molos Taverna at Lardos Jetty where you can be sure of the freshest fish around. As well as the butchers and the fishmongers, you will also find a bakery for fresh bread, cheese and spinach pies and cakes and a couple of small minimarkets. There is an ATM to withdraw your holiday spending money and a pharmacy should you over do it on the cocktails in one of the popular bars!
For your leisure, Lardos also has a go-kart track and a mini golf course open from morning until late at night. A mini water park can also be found which is great for those of you with young children in the Lothiarikia area of Lardos which is the beach resort of Lardos village.
For a bit of history, visit the Folklore Museum (opposite the minigolf) where you can step back in time as you view a fine selection of artefacts found in the area. Lardos is also known for Ipseni Monastery which is run actually as a convent and where nuns will welcome you with open arms if you visit. Dating back to 1855 this stunning building is surrounded by nature and a place to visit when you wish to escape the beaches and resort.
All in all, Lardos is a great place to mix with the locals as they enjoy their coffee mornings and afternoons on the beer and ouzo whilst playing a game of Tavli (backgammon).
Just 3km south of Lardos is one of the island's best beaches at Glystra. This sheltered sandy bay has golden sands and shallow waters with comfortable sunbeds, umbrellas, safety deposit boxes and a cantine for drinks and light snacks.
